Family Island Book Initiative was founded in 2007 as
a grassroots effort to provide children in the Family
Islands of the Bahamas with books that they could call
their own. The orgnaization was born out of the idea
that a child’s love of books and reading builds an ethic
of lifelong learning.
The program, run by volunteers with guidance from
local teachers, distributes story books to the children
of Family Islands of the Bahamas. Since the start of
the initiative and reading program,thousands of books
have been donated to families with toddlers and
school aged children.
